TAWNY ALONZO, M.S.

investigator

Background

Tawny Alonzo is an experienced civil rights investigator and Title IX practitioner. Tawny’s unique experiences as a law enforcement officer, violence prevention specialist, and Title IX administrator has equipped her with strong investigative skills, a deep understanding of Title IX policies and procedures, and insight into the complexities of preventing sexual and relationship violence.

Her journey began in higher education with a Master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education from Texas A&M University. However, she soon pursued a career in civil service by becoming a police officer in the Dallas area. During her time as a law enforcement officer, she immersed herself in extensive training around issues of sexual violence, dating and domestic violence, and child abuse. She recognized a need for change in the way officers interacted with victims of traumatic events and worked to become an expert in trauma-informed interviewing, evidence collection, and report writing.

Tawny saw an opportunity to return to higher education and employ the skills she learned as a Title IX Investigator. She previously served as a Title IX Investigator at Texas Woman’s University, Director of Violence Prevention at Southern Methodist University, and Title IX Program Manager at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Her areas of expertise include conducting compliant investigations, creating dynamic student and employee trainings, training law enforcement officers, building holistic campus violence prevention programs, and serving as an advisor to parties in civil rights investigations. She has presented at national conferences such as Ending Violence Against Women International (EVAWI) and the NASPA Strategies Conference on building strong Title IX teams, bystander intervention, creating strong campus and community partnerships, and trauma-informed interviewing.

She continues to utilize her investigative skills by serving as Title IX Solutions primary investigator. She works with K-12 schools and higher education institutions nationwide to ensure they receive compliant, high-quality investigator and advisor services.
